Margot Franssen
What is courage?

Some say it’s the absence of fear. Others believe that it’s
the quality of mind and spirit that enables us to face our fears.

Margot Franssen, founder of The Body Shop Canada, has
always had the courage to be a rebel. Rebelling toward
hope is at the heart of her life, her work and her activism.

It took courage to travel to England, cash-poor and armed only with a degree in philosophy, to meet with the late Anita Roddick, founder of The Body Shop, and to convince her that Margot could replicate the success of the franchise in Canada. It took courage to use her stores – which became profitable in an industry devoted to cultivating, promoting and fostering women’s insecurities – as a platform for social change.

Funds raised over the years through The Body Shop Canada’s signature campaign, Stop Violence Against Women, went to The Canadian Women’s Foundation for violence prevention programs and to Outward Bound for wilderness programming specifically so abused women could get in touch with their own innate courage – emotionally and physically.

If you are looking for a way to unlock prosperity and break the cycle of poverty and violence, follow Margot’s courageous example and fund women first.
