| What does it take to be bold?
Boldness requires one to go beyond the usual
limits
of conventional thought or action.
To be bold is to be daring and dauntless.
Katie Grover is bold.
After building a Wall Street career that saw her become the first woman inducted into her firm’s Chairman’s Club for high earners, Katie realized she wanted something more rewarding. So she boldly set her sights on social work – a lifelong aspiration – and completed her master’s degree.
Along the way, Katie’s brand of social work – from supporting an orphanage in Tibet, to the Wellesley Centers for Women, to launching the Ms. Foundation’s Businesswomen’s Advisory Group with her sister – has changed the lives of women and girls.
In 2003, she pledged $1 million to the Ms. Foundation – the organization she is now Board Chair of – a bold move given that there was no precedent in her family for giving at this level. But as Katie knows, boldness has its rewards: moving families out of poverty can deliver a return of $2 for every dollar invested over one to five years.
To invest in women is to invest intelligently.
